This a Pink Fairy Armadillo which I will be talking to you guys about today. I hope you enjoy!

The Pink Fairy Armadillo is also known as the Pichiciego. This armadillo is actually the smallest in the species. This particular species of armadillo generally ranges between 90-115 mm in length, excluding its tail and will weigh less than a pound.  This is the only species of armadillo that has a dorsal shell. The shell is almost completely separate from its body.

This animal resides in the dry grasslands and sandy plains of central Argentina. This sandy environment works well for the armadillo since they are excellent diggers. They actually have the ability to completely bury themselves in a matter of seconds if threatened. Their digging abilities are also used to burrow in areas next to large ant colonies. Ants provide a constant food source for the armadillo.

This armadillo tends to live a solitary life so it can stay protected underground and feed at night. Usually, the female would give birth to one young, whose shell will not become completely hardened until it is fully grown. Their large front claws allow them to effortlessly move the sand. They move underground as if they were swimming through the water. Sadly the population of a pink fairy armadillo is decreasing and they have been listed as Threatened since 1970.
